A semi-goliath crane, also known as a semi-gantry crane, is a type of crane that combines the characteristics of both gantry and overhead cranes. It is designed with one end supported on a runway track or rail, while the other end travels on the ground or a lower runway track. This configuration allows the crane to move along the length of the runway, providing lateral movement similar to a gantry crane, while also having one end supported like an overhead crane. Semi-goliath cranes are often used in outdoor storage yards, loading docks, or workshops where the overhead clearance might be limited or where a full gantry crane may not be feasible due to space or cost constraints. They are capable of handling heavy loads and offer flexibility in terms of movement and positioning within a defined area.
